Why Chatsworth House is a Dream Wedding Venue for Wedding Flowers

When Megan and Kevin contacted me about their Chatsworth House wedding, I was immediately drawn to their vision. They wanted their celebration to reflect a natural, timeless, and elegant style with meticulous attention to detail. Based in London, they chose Chatsworth House not only for its grandeur and beauty but also for their shared love of the countryside. For Megan, who grew up nearby, getting married at this iconic venue had always been a childhood dream.

A Timeless Colour Palette for Chatsworth House Wedding Flowers

The couple selected a classic colour palette of green and white with a delicate hint of blush. This understated yet elegant combination is ideal for Chatsworth House, as it complements the venue’s opulent details, including its gilded embellishments and architectural splendour. For wedding flowers at a stately home, a subtle and refined palette can enhance the setting without overpowering it.

Mood Board Inspiration

A Ceremony at St Peter’s Church, Edensor

Megan and Kevin’s ceremony took place at St Peter’s Church in Edensor, part of the Chatsworth Estate. The church is a picturesque setting, and the couple envisioned a statement floral arch to adorn the entrance, creating a memorable first impression for their guests.

Originally, we planned to line the church aisle with a floral meadow runner. However, during a site visit, we discovered that the narrow space and heat vents posed challenges for this design. This highlights why site visits are crucial—they allow us to adapt and refine ideas to suit the venue’s unique features.

Instead, we designed two grand urn arrangements filled with seasonal spring flowers, including white O’Hara roses and delicate delphiniums, which beautifully framed the aisle. Some of the centrepieces were also repurposed to add floral touches throughout the church, ensuring the space was filled with romance and charm.

Transforming The Carriage House for the Reception

The reception was held in The Carriage House, where Megan and Kevin wanted to create an unforgettable party for their friends and family. Dining was a key focus, so the floral designs were tailored to elevate the experience while seamlessly integrating with the venue’s character.

We created low-profile ceramic footed bowl arrangements filled with lush seasonal blooms, which ran the length of the dining tables. These designs were not only visually stunning but also practical, allowing guests to converse easily while enjoying the intricate floral details.

To address a large bare wall in the space, we designed a cascading floral installation. This ambitious feature involved over 200 lines of flowers, suspended on fishing wire to create a floating effect. The addition of backlighting enhanced the ethereal look, making it a true showstopper. This project required scaffolding and precision, but the end result was worth every effort.

Sustainable Floristry: Repurposing Designs

As a sustainable florist, I’m passionate about repurposing flowers wherever possible. The arrangements from the church were carefully relocated to the reception, ensuring they were enjoyed throughout the day. While larger structures like arches may require adjustments during the move, this approach provides fresh looks and maximises the value of your flowers—saving money and reducing waste.
